Survey Says A-Rod No Longer Baseball's Best It’s funny how one little positive test can change everything.

No longer the clean savior of baseball, Alex Rodriguez has lost his luster in the eyes of many experts and a recent poll shows that he’s no longer considered baseball’s best player, the New York Daily News reports.

“In a random, unscientific survey that included several scouts, executives, players and other observers, none said Rodriguez was still the best player in baseball,” the report said.

While it’s hard to say what the results would have looked like before Selena Roberts‘ report, he probably would have gotten at least one vote of confidence from the group.

“You find that most of the [performance-enhanding drug] users, once they get off it when they are in their early 30s, they tend to start the diminishment process,” a scout told the Daily News. “[Jason] Giambi’s a model. They start to lose stuff. Power is one, though the ballpark may save A-Rod because Yankee Stadium is so ridiculous.”

Those polled said that Albert Pujols has supplanted A-Rod as the best in the game, with names like Joe Mauer and Evan Longoria being thrown into the mix.
