The news that Paul Pierce had to have his knee drained and would miss two weeks was surprising — even to Doc Rivers.
The head coach told Boston.com on Thursday that he doesn't expect the Celtics' captain to miss that much time, calling the proposed time frame a "guesstimate by a doctor who never played basketball."
"I think it may be shorter than two weeks," Rivers told the Web site.
The report also spreads some good news about Kevin Garnett, who missed Monday's game with a bruised thigh, and Glen Davis, who's yet to play in the regular season.
Garnett will play on the Christmas Day matchup in Orlando, Rivers told the Web site, after practicing at full speed, while Davis practiced with the team and is inching closer to a return.
