Report: Jason Bay Would Love Playing in Seattle

Jason Bay enjoyed his year and a half in Boston, but word is he'd like Seattle even more.

Seattle Times reporter Geoff Baker wrote on his Twitter page that he's heard that "Bay has been telling his former Pirates teammates he'd stand on his head and sing on E. Martinez Way to play for M's."

Part of the reported interest from Bay could stem from geography. His hometown of Trail, British Columbia, is just north of the border, and his wife is from nearby Kirkland, Wash.

The Mariners would likely be just as happy to sign Bay. The team already signed Chone Figgins to a four-year, $36 million deal, and the addition of Bay would be a boost for the lineup.

Not content to let his teammate go without a fight, veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield pleaded his case for Bay to stay in Boston.

"I think you don’t change from what you have, that’s my opinion," Wakefield told the Boston Herald. "He made the All-Star team playing left field for us, he’s a great offensive guy and knows how to play The Wall really well."
