It appears unlikely that Marco Sturm will be ready to return to the Bruins’ lineup Thursday, despite indications to the contrary earlier on Wednesday.

After sitting out the B’s previous two games with a leg injury, Sturm was listed as day-to-day, but he left practice early, according to NESN.com’s James Murphy.

To replace Sturm, the Bruins called up Drew Larman from Providence to be the 12th forward on the bench.  The 24-year-old made his debut with Boston on Jan. 18.

To make room for Larman, general manager Peter Chiarelli announced that defenseman Adam McQuaid would be going back down to Providence. McQuaid had been called up from the AHL club earlier on Wednesday, giving the impression that Sturm would be all set for the Blue Jackets game Thursday.

With Sturm forced to leave practice and Steve Begin and Byron Bitz both sidelined with undisclosed injuries, the Bruins’ hand was forced and both McQuaid and Larman were required to quickly reverse their previous travel plans.
