After being designated for assignment by the Red Sox on March 1, Gaby Hernandez was claimed by the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.
Boston claimed the 23-year-old right-handed pitcher off waivers from Seattle on Feb. 10. He spent the entire 2009 season with Triple-A Tacoma, where he went 10-9 with a 5.23 ERA and 98 strikeouts.
Hernandez was drafted by the Mets in the third round of the 2004 draft, and he has spent time in the Mets, Marlins and Mariners organizations.
