Red Sox infielder Mike Lowell is heading to the 15-day disabled list, according WEEI.com.

With the club activating pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka Thursday night to take on the Rockies in Colorado, a move has to be made to make room on the roster for the righty.

"Something could happen," Lowell told ESPN.com after Wednesday night’s game when asked if he was going to be moved on Thursday. "I can’t say yes, and I can’t say no."

Lowell, who had hip surgery this offseason, is making $12 million this season. He is hitting .213 (17-for-80) and since May 16, he is 2-for-27 (.074) in just six starts. Prior to his pinch-hitting appearance on Tuesday, the corner infielder had not played in nine days.
