Red Sox fans came into the season with the assumption that this club would win games based on pitching and defense.

Boy, were they off.

Now, three months into the season, the Sox’ bats are busy bailing out the staff and checking in with the most runs scored in the major leagues. The club also ranks third in the league in batting average, second in home runs and first in RBIs.

Perhaps the most surprising member of the Sox lineup has been the newly acquired Adrian Beltre. The third baseman had a down year in 2009 but the club took a gamble on the slugging third baseman this offseason and it’s paid off in a big way. Leading up to Wednesday night’s contest, Beltre owns a team-high .349 batting average (also second in the MLB) as well as the team-lead in RBIs with 52.

David Ortiz, although off to one of his now traditional slow starts, is right back in the thick of things as he owns a team-most 17 homers to go with 50 RBIs.

Not to go unnoticed, first baseman and cleanup hitter Kevin Youkillis has a .301 BA, 15 homers and 50 RBIs and has a team-best .997 OPS.

So who is the Red Sox offensive MVP so far?
