Ray Allen will remain in Celtics green, according to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein.

The team has agreed to retain Allen for two years and $20 million, with a player option for the second year, according to the report. Players are free to sign contracts at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday.

It's a considerable decrease in pay for Allen, who earned an average of $17.7 million in each of his three seasons in Boston. Given that he'll turn 35 years old on July 20, however, he likely wasn't receiving offers in that range.

The shooting guard averaged 16.3 points per game last season — the lowest total since he averaged 13.4 in his rookie season of 1996-97. His .363 percentage from 3-point range was the worst of his career.

Still, he set an NBA Finals record in Game 2 against the Lakers in June, when he hit eight 3-pointers. He struggled mightily in the remaining five games, however, going 4-for-28 from long range.

He'll likely get a chance to break the all-time record for 3-pointers, as he needs 116 of them to catch up with Reggie Miller. Despite his drop-off last season, Allen still hit 145 shots from beyond the arc.
