Could the Celtics soon be welcoming back an old friend?

According to Sam Amico of NBA.com, the Celtics are one of three teams that could land Delonte West.

There has been speculation throughout the offseason that the Celtics may be interested in reacquiring West, who was recently shipped from Cleveland to Minnesota as part of a four-player deal. The Timberwolves waived the 27-year-old guard on Tuesday, which could potentially make it easier for West to return to the team that drafted him in 2004.

The early word is that West could end up with the Celtics, Bulls or Mavericks.

The 6-foot-4 Saint Joseph’s product played his first three seasons in Boston before being traded to the Sonics during the 2007 offseason as part of the deal that brought Ray Allen to the Celtics. West was again traded in February of 2008 to the Cavaliers. He spent the last three seasons in Cleveland, before being traded to Minnesota on July 27 of this year.

West has averaged 10 points and 3.7 assists per game in his six-year NBA career. Recently, though, he has made more news for his offseason antics than for his on-court performance.

He pleaded guilty last month to weapons charges and was sentenced to eight months of home detention, two years of unsupervised probation, 40 hours of community service and psychological counseling.  There were also rumors of an affair between West and former teammate LeBron James' mother

West, who averaged 8.8 points in 60 games for the Cavaliers last season, is due to only make $500,000 because he was waived by the Timberwolves prior to Thursday. The Celtics could offer him a minimum salary of $1.06 million for a player with six years of experience.
