Chiefs Lineman Shaun Smith Accused of Low Blows in Consecutive Weeks

Chiefs Lineman Shaun Smith Accused of Low Blows in Consecutive Weeks Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Shaun Smith appears to have found a winning strategy.

For two consecutive weeks, Smith has been able to induce 15-yard personal foul penalties by allegedly inappropriately grabbing opponents’ groin areas.

In Week 2, it was the Cleveland Browns’ Alex Mack who was victimized.

“I don’t think he should be able to do that,” Mack said.

Smith, however, has denied the accusations.

“I don’t have no comment,” he said. “I don’t recall doing anything like that. I’m not known for being a dirty player or anything like that, so I don’t know what that was all about.”

Then, it happened again. 49ers offensive tackle Anthony Davis was flagged 15 yards for an outburst on Sunday, which he later claimed was caused by Smith’s below-the-belt cheapshot.

“He tried to feel me,” Davis said. “That’s weird, right?”

Coach Mike Singletary backed up Davis’ accusations.

“I think he got hit inappropriately,” he remarked.

While it is generally the reality that players will do just about anything — eye gauging and genitalia grabbing included — to win a ball during a fumble scrum, this kind of thing really shouldn’t be happening all the time.

It’s hard to believe that Smith is the only player ever to use this tactic — even though he probably is the only player to get called out for it two weeks in a row.

If a Cincinnati Bengal complains about this after next Sunday, the NFL should probably investigate the situation. If they have time for Ines Sainz, they have time for this.
