Catcher Jason Varitek was activated from the 15-day disabled list and minor leaguers Lars Anderson and Josh Reddick were added to the roster Monday prior to the Red Sox' meeting with the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.

Varitek, 38, has missed 58 games due to a broken right foot. He was 2-for-5 in two rehab games with Pawtucket, including a game Monday afternoon in which he served as the designated hitter. In 34 games with the Red Sox, the captain has hit .263 with seven homers and 16 RBIs.

Anderson, 22, will be making his major league debut against the Rays, playing first base and batting eighth. An 18th-round pick in 2006, he hit .274 with 15 home runs, 37 doubles and 69 RBIs in 130 games between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket this year.

The 23-year-old Reddick is making his fourth visit to the big leagues this season. He is 4-for-25 (.160) in 11 games with Boston in 2010. He finished his season with the PawSox batting .266 with 18 homers and 65 RBIs, but has hit .388 (26-for-67) with seven dingers and 15 RBIs in a 15-game span beginning Aug. 23.

The Red Sox' active major league roster is at 32 players and their 40-man roster is full.
