As suspected, the most recent injury to Celtics forward Kevin Garnett is a minor one, and the Big Ticket should be back in action by mid-January.

KG went down with an apparent leg injury as he finished a dunk late in the first quarter of the Celtics’ loss Wednesday night in Detroit. The team was quick to emphasize that it was not a knee injury, and test results Thursday proved it.

X-rays came back negative on Wednesday night, and the Celtics have announced that an MRI turned out negative as well. Garnett’s injury has been ruled a muscle strain and he’ll likely be out two weeks.

Garnett has played in all 30 Celtics games this season, averaging 17.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per contest. He missed a combined 49 games over his first three seasons in Boston, plus the entirety of the 2009 playoffs, mostly due to knee injuries.

Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said Thursday on WEEI that until Garnett returns, Glen Davis will be starting in his place.
