Vote: Which Free Agent or Potential Buyout Player Would You Most Like to See the Celtics Sign This Season? Danny Ainge took a major risk on Thursday, trading away the Celtics’ franchise center for players who seemed to be of lesser value in the hope that he would be able to bring in a free agent or buyout player before Boston’s playoff run.

Many are still in shock in the wake of Kendrick Perkins’ departure, but there are a few names out there who could bring something to the Celtics’ rotation.

After also trading away Semih Erden, the most pressing need for Boston is at center, and there are few players more reliably productive than Samuel Dalembert and Troy Murphy. Neither are stars, but both have been solid rotation players in the association for years. Murphy, while not the best defender, has legitimate shooting range, and he’s also a very good rebounder, averaging over 10 per game for much of his career. The Warriors, who reacquired Murphy at the deadline, may not be so willing to let him go, meaning that Dalembert may be the next best option. A hulking defender, you can always count on the Haitian to register a few blocks each game, in addition to providing a domineering presence around the basket.

If the Celtics want to move another direction and further add depth at small forward, they could look to Jason Kapono, one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history — his percentage is even better than Ray Allen‘s. Kapono twice won the NBA’s three-point contest, and at 6-foot-8, he has the size to guard opposing threes.

Some familiar faces, of course, are also in the picture. Now that Cleveland has waived Leon Powe, the forward who won an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2008 could be on the way back, as could the one and only Rasheed Wallace, who has lurked in retirement all season.
