Editor’s note: Fenway Park opened on April 20, 1912. NESN.com will be celebrating Fenway’s 100-year anniversary with unique content from now until April 20, 2012.

In 1915, Fenway Park became a little less crowded as the Braves, Boston’s National League team, moved out in August and began playing at their own venue, Braves Field on Commonwealth Avenue. For the remainder of the regular season, the Red Sox had Fenway all to their own.

When the Red Sox advanced to the World Series that October, the team abandoned their home field and played the Fall Classic at the Braves Field, which was a larger venue. The Red Sox captured the championship, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies four games to one for their third World Series title.

Though Fenway did not feature any postseason baseball, it did host football for local college and high school teams.
