ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Undefeated Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jered Weaver was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Weaver's bid for his seventh win may be pushed back just one day because of a stomach virus. Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia is hopeful Weaver will be able to start Monday night's game at Boston.
"If this was the seventh game of the World Series, I think you'd see him out there trying to pitch," Scioscia said. "He had some IV's put in, and I think more one day of getting fluids in him and he should be good to go."
Weaver is 6-0 with an 0.99 ERA in six starts this season. He has been ill for a couple of days.
"I got sick," Weaver said. "I feel good today."
Tyler Chatwood replaced Weaver, who unsuccessfully lobbied Scioscia to pitch against the Rays.
"After we got advice from the medical department, he had a 0.0 percent [chance]," Scioscia said. "I think in the big picture here, this one day will be absorbed and forgotten about."
