It might just be the motivational splash the Red Wings need to pull off a comeback in the Western Conference semifinals.
San Jose’s Joe Thornton took an embarrassing flop in the first period when Detroit’s Johan Franzen swatted a fly off the Sharks captain’s shin pad on Sunday night. The Wings were down 1-0 at the time of the dive and, after falling behind 2-0 in the second, they would go on to put up three unanswered goals two periods later and eventually get the 4-3 win to avoid elimination and put the series at 3-2.
