Charles Barkley Says Baseball Stinks, Basketball Starting to Stink As Well, Thanks to LeBron James

It seems that every time Charles Barkley opens his mouth, something memorable comes out. At the very least, it’s something honest, and lately, it’s been something about LeBron James.

The latest offering from Sir Charles came in an appearance on ESPN radio, where he said the building of superteams — like the Miami Heat — makes the NBA stink like baseball.

“It would take a miracle on [commissioner David Stern‘s] part not to have a lockout and I truly believe that,” Barkley said, according to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I think there’s going to be a lockout, I think the owners are dug in, I think they want to send a message to these players.

“I think they’re really upset by this LeBron James-Chris Bosh situation, because their teams don’t have to be really good, but I feel like if they have a star in their market they can make some money. And if all the stars want to play together … we’re almost becoming like baseball where you’ve got a few good teams and the rest of them stink.”

Frankly, it doesn’t even make sense, and it’s hard to fully comprehend where baseball lies in the LeBron James equation. Perhaps Miami sports fans understand it, though. They know a ton about baseball teams that stink.

Quote of the day

“When I was 20, I would have been crushed: ‘I can’t go on; I’ll never get another chance to be in a quarterfinal of a Grand Slam.’ But today, I know that I should probably have lots more. I don’t have that mental stress. I know what I’ve accomplished already. It’s different when you’re older and you’ve accomplished as much as I have.”

I don’t know what this is, and I don’t even know if I want to go in it. At the same time, I definitely want to go in it.
