How Many Red Sox Players Will Make AL All-Star Team This Year? Major League Baseball's All-Star break is rapidly approaching, which usually means a number of Red Sox players will soon be packing their bags to head to the Midsummer Classic. That will likely be the case again this year, but it's difficult to gauge just exactly how many will be doing so.

All-Star fan voting concludes on Thursday night, and the Red Sox would have two players in the starting lineup if the current vote totals hold up.

Adrian Gonzalez is the leading vote-getter among AL first baseman, due in large part to his near-Triple Crown numbers. He leads the Yankees' Mark Teixeira by almost a million votes.

Meanwhile, David Ortiz is leading the way among AL designated hitters. With well over 4 million votes thus far, Ortiz is blowing away the competition and should be looking at his seventh All-Star selection.

But there are some other Red Sox players who are currently on the outside looking in when it comes to the fans' votes, although they could still ultimately be selected by manger Ron Washington — manager of the Texas Rangers, who is managing the AL team because his team went to the World Series last year.

Dustin Pedroia is currently ranked second among second basemen, and Kevin Youkilis is currently ranked third among third basemen. But they both have a lot of ground to make up in a limited amount of time.

Jacoby Ellsbury, on the other hand, is closing in on the Texas Rangers' Josh Hamilton for the third and final starting outfield spot. It would mark Ellsbury's first trip to the All-Star Game.

In addition to all five of those guys having an opportunity to make the team, the Sox could also send a couple of pitchers.

While Clay Buchholz's injury could take him out of the running despite a strong start, Josh Beckett has regained his ace form this season and Jon Lester ranks among the AL leaders in wins.

There are a number of factors that go into All-Star selections, so how many Red Sox will be fortunate enough to get the nod?
