David Ortiz Likely to Ask Adrian Gonzalez, Mark Teixeira, Jose Bautista to Join American League Home Run Derby Team Red Sox slugger David Ortiz will seek to defend his Home Run Derby crown next week, and he will get the opportunity to select who else will join him.

MLB designated Ortiz as the captain of the American League squad in the July 11 Home Run Derby, and Big Papi will be allowed to select three other AL hitters to join him in the battle of the long ball.

Ortiz has been asking fans via Twitter to give him suggestions on who he should choose to join him. All players are eligible for the derby, not only those who make the All-Star roster.

Judging by Ortiz's Twitter activity, it appears as though teammate Adrian Gonzalez as well as AL East foes Jose Bautista and Mark Teixeira are high on Ortiz's list.

Gonzalez has already said he would accept Papi's invite to join him.
