Leading up to the MLB trade deadline, Red Sox fans will likely hear a lot of names tossed around, particularly when it comes to outfielders and relievers. One outfielder the team may be interested in is Ryan Ludwick of the San Diego Padres, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Ludwick, 33, was traded to the Padres by the Cardinals prior to last year's trade deadline in a deal that netted the Cardinals pitcher Jake Westbrook. Ludwick had spent the previous three-plus seasons with St. Louis.

This season, Ludwick has 11 home runs and 55 RBIs to go with a .240 average in 90 games. His best season came as a member of the Cardinals in 2008, when he batted .299, hit 37 home runs and drove in 113 runs. That season marked his only All-Star selection.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Bob Brookover said that an American League scout told him that the Padres may seek a near ready big-league prospect and perhaps another player or two in exchange for Ludwick.
