Vote: Would You Trade a Top Red Sox Prospect for Carlos Beltran? There has been a lot of speculation recently that the New York Mets will move one of their superstars — Carlos Beltran or Jose Reyes — prior to the trade deadline. The team reportedly isn't planning to trade Reyes, though, which leaves Beltran as the guy who could be on his way out of the Big Apple.

The Red Sox are one of a handful of teams that have reportedly inquired with the Mets about the 34-year-old outfielder, who has put together a solid 2011 campaign after a couple of injury-plagued seasons.

He enters the Mets' matchup with the Cardinals on Wednesday night hitting .293 with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs. His on-base percentage is a solid .389, while his slugging percentage and OPS check in at .523 and .911, respectively.

Beltran is a six-time All-Star — including earning a selection this season — who could really provide some offensive punch to whichever team he joins for the stretch run.

However, the Mets' asking price could be high, as the team could be looking for quality prospects in return rather than simply dumping salary.

The Red Sox' lack of production from its right fielders has been well-documented, although Josh Reddick has suddenly burst onto the scene, hitting at a .378 clip in 82 at-bats.

With the team set to make another postseason push, though, the Sox have to decide whether to solve the right-field situation internally or roll the dice on a veteran like Beltran.
