Jed Lowrie took his latest step toward a return to the majors on Monday night when he started at shortstop for the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket.

Lowrie went hitless in two at-bats in three innings of work against Louisville Bats starter Edison Volquez. Starting at shortstop, Lowrie grounded out to first base in his first at-bat in the first, and he then lined out to first base in the third inning.

He was replaced in the field prior to the fourth inning by Sox prospect Jose Iglesias.

Lowrie continues to work his way back from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him since June 16. The infielder had won the starting shortstop job after a red-hot start to the year, but started to slow some before being injured. Lowrie was hitting .270 with three home runs and 25 RBIs when he hit the DL on June 17.
