ESPN Tabs Betty White to Do ‘Monday Night Football’ Opening for Saints-Falcons Game on Dec. 26

Who'da thunk it?

ESPN began the year with its customary opening for Monday Night Football Hank Williams Jr. rhetorically asking us if we were ready for some football — and it will end the year with Betty White

ESPN announced that for its season finale of Monday Night Football, the 89-year-old actress will star in the game's intro. The network announced the decision in a press release, saying that for the Dec. 26 game between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, ESPN's production team "was dreaming of a white Christmas."

So, they went with Betty White. Get it?

There was also this gem from the Worldwide Leader: "ESPN's production team was looking to cast a warm grandmotherly type, and White was the perfect choice."

Naturally. How many "warm grandmotherly types" don't star in music videos like this one?

At the very least, it's one of the more interesting choices for ESPN, which has had to find fill-ins for the broadcast's opening sequence after it parted ways with Williams in October after the country music legend criticized Barack Obama on a TV appearance.

Alas, White does have something of a gridiron past. She stole the show a couple of years ago with her memorable Snickers commercial.

Check that out below.
