Red Sox Sign Mike Aviles to One-Year Deal, Avoid Salary Arbitration

The Red Sox agreed to terms with Mike Aviles on a one-year, non-guaranteed contract Tuesday to avoid salary arbitration. The Boston Herald reports the deal is worth deal is worth $1.2 million.

Boston acquired Aviles, 30, from Kansas City before the trade deadline on July 30. During the past offseason, the Red Sox asked Aviles to hone his skills in right field in winter ball for Ponce Leones in Puerto Rico to maximize his versatility.

Aviles made four appearances in right field for the Red Sox in 2011. In 91 games with Boston and Kansas City, Aviles hit .255 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs.

After inking Aviles and outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury on Tuesday, the Red Sox have David Ortiz, Alfredo Aceves, Andrew Bailey and Daniel Bard as the only remaining unsigned players eligible for salary arbitration.
