Flyers Take 3-0 Lead Over Penguins, Panthers Win Playoff Game for First Time Since 1997The moon was blue, and pigs were flying Sunday night.

Not really — but the Philadelphia Flyers did take a 3-0 series lead over onetime Stanley Cup favorites the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Florida Panthers won their first playoff game in 15 years.

In the West, the Nashville Predators held serve against the Detroit Red Wings, winning at home to go up 2-1 in the series. Los Angeles, meanwhile, beat Vancouver 1-0 to go up 3-0 in that series.

Here are the recaps from the games that took place Sunday, April 15. Be sure to check out more of the  in-depth Associated Press recaps and previews

Philadelphia Flyers 8, Pittsburgh Penguins 4

PHILADELPHIA — Fists were flying faster than shots on goal. Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux even became knotted in the pushing, pulling and shoving, a pair of superstars willing to mix it up to prove which team was the baddest on the ice and the scoreboard.

The Penguins and Flyers talked trash, laid the smack down, and played one wildly entertaining game. The result was still the same. The Flyers rallied from another early deficit for a decisive Game 3 victory that placed them on the brink of an improbable sweep. Read the complete story here.

Florida Panthers 4, New Jersey Devils 2

SUNRISE, Fla. — Stephen Weiss waited 10 years. The Florida Panthers waited 15 years. Fast start, frantic finish — and finally, a moment to savor.

Weiss scored the first two playoff goals of his career, Jose Theodore stopped 23 shots, and the Panthers got their first playoff victory since April 17, 1997, topping the New Jersey Devils 4-2 on Sunday night to even the first-round series at a game apiece. Read the complete story here.

Nashville Predators 3, Detroit Red Wings 2

DETROIT — Shea Weber knew he wouldn't be popular in the Motor City.

The star defenseman didn't really care. He just wanted to win.

Weber turned boos into silence with a goal early in the first period, and the Nashville Predators held on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 Sunday to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round series. Read the complete story here.

Los Angeles Kings 1, Vancouver Canucks 0

LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Quick made 41 saves, Dustin Brown scored on a long rebound with 13:30 to play, and the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Kings pushed the Vancouver Canucks to the brink of elimination with a 1-0 victory in Game 3 on Sunday night.

Brown's fourth goal of a stellar series put the Kings one win away from their first playoff series victory since 2001. He also put the two-time Presidents' Trophy-winning Canucks on the edge of a shocking playoff departure. Read the complete story here.
