WDIV-TV in Detroit used the appropriate hushed tones. The news team put together a respectful package. The anchors gave an intro and sent the story to a reporter in downtown Detroit.
They just forgot to make sure their on-screen graphic was actually that of revered South African leader Nelson Mandela — not commonly loathed human being and Major League Baseball scapegoat Alex Rodriguez.
While A-Rod has tastelessly gotten himself into the middle of controversies before, he didn’t do anything to be part of this mishap on a Thursday night newscast. It’s all on WDIV-TV, which somehow mixed up a photo during a Mandela report and had Rodriguez’s face featured instead.
It’s quite possibly the worst mix-up that could happen, and it’s hard to know how it happened, considering Rodriguez isn’t even in the news this week.
