Detroit Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter had a processing error in the batter’s box when Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish dished a 55-mph eephus pitch during Thursday’s game at Comerica Park.
With two outs and an 0-2 count against Hunter, Darvish threw the low-speed curveball at the perfect time: The Rangers led by seven runs and no one was on base. The pitch didn’t cause a strikeout, but the distress on Hunter’s face was clear as he didn’t know what to do with ball sailing slowly toward him.
Hunter ended up striking out in the at-bat, and the Rangers won 9-2.
