Tom Brady Lacks Weapons In Patriots’ Listing Offense … Or Does He?

Tom BradyThere are a lot of reasons for the New England Patriots’ offensive struggles, but a lack of weapons around Tom Brady isn’t one of them.

Contrary to what you’ve heard in print and on the airwaves, the Patriots quarterback does not lack for talented players to exploit at the skill positions. What’s more, the idea that teams such as the Denver Broncos have done a better job of putting pieces around franchise-type quarterbacks like Peyton Manning is utterly false, Matt Chatham writes in his latest column on Football by Football.

Among other reasons, Chatham points out that many of the supposed weapons Denver “put around” Manning actually were acquired before Manning ever arrived in the Mile High City. Chatham also notes the Broncos opted to let Eric Decker go in free agency and went the cheaper route with Emmanuel Sanders — a move that strikes Chatham as very “Patriot-y.”

So far, Sanders has worked out just fine working with Manning.

In other words, go ahead and scoff at the simplistic takes on the Patriots’ struggles. As Chatham writes, “When you’ve got a simple answer to a big problem, I know one thing with absolute certainty: You’re wrong.”
