Jake Peavy Needed Dental Work For Teeth He Chipped In Opening Gum Pack

Jake Peavy was all smiles Thursday night following the San Francisco Giants’ NLCS win over the St. Louis Cardinals. How ironic?

Peavy, whose Giants punched their ticket to the 2014 World Series, apparently underwent dental surgery earlier in the day to repair teeth he chipped while opening a gum pack.

The Giants won later in the evening when Travis Ishikawa belted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Peavy literally was the first person to greet Ishikawa, as the pitcher wasted no time in running onto the field to mob the Game 5 hero.

This isn’t Peavy’s first brush with a bizarre injury, either. The right-hander accidentally sliced his hand with a fishing knife during spring training while still with the Boston Red Sox.

Maybe Peavy was a little loopy from the medication. Who knows?
