If there were a college football award for sense of humor, Michigan State punter Mike Sadler would be in the mix.

Sadler decided to have a little fun with his team’s important Big 10 matchup against the University of Nebraska on Saturday night, which included the Spartans’ punter petting an imaginary cat.

First, some vital background information.

There’s a very popular parody Twitter account mocking Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini called “Fake Bo Pelini.” The account, which has more than 133,000 followers, is wildly popular for its snark and sarcasm especially as it pertains to the Cornhuskers and the rest of the college football world.

For whatever reason, the Twitter avatar for the account is Pelini holding a cat. So with Michigan State and Nebraska meeting on the national stage Saturday night, Sadler decided he would give a nod to “Faux Pelini” by petting an imaginary cat after his punts.

On Saturday night in front of a national TV audience, Sadler came through on his promise.

It’s safe to assume this is the last time we’ll Sadler’s cat-petting celebration, though. While the No. 10 Spartans were able to hold on and beat Nebraska, it wasn’t easy. The Cornhuskers stormed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Sparty 19-0. That included a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown on one of Sadler’s punts.

That was enough for him to give up on the cat.
