Jason Zucker is a lucky man.

The Minnesota Wild forward narrowly avoided a significant injury Sunday at Staples Center after he was whistled for a tripping penalty. The scene on the ice could have been much, much worse, though, as the skate of Los Angeles Kings forward Kyle Clifford struck Zucker in the face on the play.

Fortunately, it looks like Clifford’s blade missed Zucker’s face and throat, as it was mostly the heel that made contact with him.

The sequence of events is cringe-worthy and certainly serves as a reminder that hockey can be an incredibly dangerous sport.

Zucker remained on the ice for some time after the incident, grabbing at his throat in relief, but he luckily avoided serious injury on the play.
