Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson is one tough cookie.

Midway through the second period in Toronto on Saturday night, Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly fired off a pass that deflected off the stick of Andrew Shaw and straight into the face of Hjalmarsson, who was crouched down in an attempt to block the pass.

The puck caught Hjalmarsson, who does not wear a visor, just underneath his right eye, and it was not a pretty scene on the ice as there was no shortage of blood.

While the rest of us would have called it a night no questions asked, Hjalmarsson returned to the ice for the start of the third period, sporting some new stitches.
