12:15 p.m. ET: Friday afternoon won’t be Kevin Garnett’s first visit to TD Garden as a member of the opposition. But it might be his last.

Garnett is nearing the end of his storied NBA career, with many speculating that he will hang up his sneakers for good at the end of this season. If that does indeed happen, Friday’s Brooklyn Nets-Boston Celtics matchup will mark the final time the 38-year-old sets foot on the Garden parquet.

Garnett’s Nets enter the meeting on a two-game winning streak but overall have struggled this season, sitting just a game and a half ahead of the Celtics in the Atlantic Division standings.

There’s a chance Brooklyn will have Deron Williams available after the point guard missed two games with a calf injury. Nets coach Lionel Hollins said before the game that Williams is a game-time decision.

Regardless of Williams’ status, Jarrett Jack is expected to run the point to start.

The Celtics will be shaking up their starting lineup again, with Marcus Smart getting the nod at point guard and Jameer Nelson heading back to the bench. Nelson started Tuesday night against the Magic in Orlando and was instrumental in the Celtics’ furious fourth-quarter comeback.

Here’s what the starting lineups should look like:

Celtics
Marcus Smart
Avery Bradley
Jeff Green
Jared Sullinger
Tyler Zeller

Nets
Jarrett Jack
Sergey Karasev
Joe Johnson
Kevin Garnett
Mason Plumlee

Tipoff for the matinee matchup is set for 1 p.m. Follow along with all the action right here, and follow NESN.com Celtics beat writer Zack Cox on Twitter for instant updates and analysis.

First quarter 11:59, 0-0: Mason Plumlee deflects the opening tip back to Kevin Garnett, and we are underway.

Think folks in Boston still love Garnett? He’s already gotten two ovations this afternoon.

First quarter 5:18, Nets 15-11: The backcourt combo of Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley should, if nothing else, make it difficult for opposing guards to score, but that hasn’t been the case so far today. Jarrett Jack and Sergey Karasev have scored 13 of the Nets’ 15 points.
The offensive highlight of the game so far, though, belongs to Jeff Green, who threw down a thunderous alley-oop off a pass from Bradley.

First quarter 2:16, Celtics 23-17: Talk about a comeback game for Jeff Green and Jared Sullinger. After combining for just four points in Tuesday’s loss to the Magic (all from Green), the two have teamed up to score 17 already on 7-of-9 shooting. Green has 10 to lead all scorers.

It’s also worth noting that Marcus Smart jogged down the tunnel during the last timeout and has not returned to the bench.

End first quarter, Celtics 29-28: The Celtics lead it by one after 12 minutes. Brad Stevens has been active with his rotations today, with 10 players seeing floor time during the first quarter. One of those players was Jae Crowder, who didn’t see action until the fourth Tuesday night but impressed Stevens with his physicality.

Jeff Green leads all scorers with 12 points, while Jarrett Jack has nine points to pace the Nets.

Second quarter 8:06, Celtics 40-37: The new guys have done a nice job here in the second, Brandon Wright and Jae Crowder in particular. Wright has shown some great maneuverability in the paint and also powered through the Nets’ defense for a contested dunk.

Second quarter 3:24, Celtics 50-46: The second quarter has been Avery Bradley’s time to go off. Bradley has seven points in the last two minutes after scoring just two in the first quarter. Marcus Smart also got on the board for the first time today during that span, burying a three after missing twice from deep in the first.

Halftime, 56-56: A Jameer Nelson fadeaway clangs off the back of the rim in the final seconds, and we head into halftime all knotted up at 56.

Third quarter 11:59, 56-56: We are off and running in the second half.

Third quarter 8:53, Celtics 63-58: Tyler Zeller takes a feed from Marcus Smart and slams it home, prompting Lionel Hollins to use his first timeout of the second half. Smart has been active here in the third, also grabbing a rebound and picking off a Jarrett Jack pass in the first few minutes.

The dunk gave Zeller 10 points on the afternoon, making him the third Celtic to reach double figures after Jared Sullinger (12 points) did so with a fast-break and-one less than a minute earlier.

Third quarter 3:11, Celtics 76-70: This one GIF perfectly epitomizes everything the Celtics love about Marcus Smart:

Smart is having a phenomenal third quarter and now has five points, six assists, three rebounds and four steals on the afternoon.

End third quarter, Celtics 86-79: Deron Williams nails a jumper at the buzzer, but the Celtics still take a seven-point lead into the final quarter.

It’s nice to see the C’s starters carry the load for once rather than the team having to rely on bench scoring. Jared Sullinger, Jeff Green, Avery Bradley and Tyler Zeller have combined for 62 points today.

Fourth quarter 7:51, Celtics 95-88: We finally got our first Brandon Bass sighting of the afternoon with 10:32 to play in the third quarter, and Bass proceeded to do … well, what Bass does. He got beat by Deron Williams for a layup, but he scored four quick points on two layups.

Zack Cox Fri, Dec 26, 20142:58pm

Fourth quarter 6:15, Celtics 97-95: The Nets reel off an 11-0 run to cut the Celtics’ advantage to two. Alan Anderson scored five of those points on two shots, and Mason Plumlee chipped in with four.

Zack Cox Fri, Dec 26, 20143:06pm

Fourth quarter 1:13, 104-104: Jared Sullinger has come up with five big points in the past few minutes, but Brooklyn has responded each time, first with a Joe Johnson jumper and then with an Alan Anderson three.

This one is going down to the wire.

Zack Cox Fri, Dec 26, 20143:08pm

Fourth quarter 0:27, Nets 106-104: Jarrett Jack buries a jumper from the top of the key, and the Nets go ahead by two.

Zack Cox Fri, Dec 26, 20143:20pm

Final, Nets 109-107: Avery Bradley drilled a three with 1.8 seconds to play, Joe Johnson missed one of two free throws on the next Nets possession, and Gerald Wallace connected with Jared Sullinger on a full-court Hail Mary on the ensuing inbounds pass, but Sullinger’s baseline fadeaway clanged off the rim.

Ballgame.

Five Celtics finished the game in double figures, as did four Nets. Jarrett Jack led all scorers with 27 points.

The Celtics return to action Saturday night, when they visit Paul Pierce and the Wizards in Washington.
