To quote the legendary Lou Brown, Hampton is a contender now.

The Pirates kicked off the 2015 NCAA tournament in style Tuesday night by downing Manhattan 74-64 in First Four action. More importantly, they had a great time doing so, busting out a fantastic celebration after a late made free throw.

That player on the far right was a little slow on the uptake, but overall, pretty impressive. For the uninformed, Hampton’s routine is an homage to an awesome montage in the 1989 classic “Major League” (The specific scene starts at the 2:02 mark).

The Pirates might as well have their fun now, though, as the No. 16 seed will face Willie Cauley-Stein and undefeated Kentucky in the Round of 64. Hampton’s chances of winning are virtually impossible.

But hey, nobody believed in Lou Brown’s Cleveland Indians, either.
