Jozy Altidore scores better than he swears.

Altidore was sent off during the second half of the United States’ 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Tuesday in Zurich. Referee Luca Banti showed Altidore two yellow cards in quick succession, reducing the United States to 10 men and causing it to lose its grip on the game and ultimately the lead.

Banti showed Altidore the first yellow card for his trip on Swiss fullback Francois Moubandje in the 68th minute. If Altidore wanted to debate the merits of Banti’s decision, he used the wrong words.

Altidore’s dismissal was the first for a United States men’s national team player in over three years.

Team USA was leading 1-0 when Banti sent off Altidore. Valentin Stocker scored the game-tying goal 12 minutes after Altidore’s dismissal, cancelling out the free-kick goal Brek Shea scored on the stroke of halftime.

Altidore’s red card ended a run of positive performances for the United States. He scored Team USA’s first goal last week in the 3-2 loss to Denmark, but his surprising exit against Switzerland currently overshadows last week’s highlight.
