Barring a late change in circumstances, Glen Johnson’s Liverpool career is winding down.

Johnson told Sky Sports on Tuesday he expects to leave Liverpool this summer as a free agent. Johnson’s contract expires after the 2014-15 season, and the veteran fullback could be looking for a new club to represent next season.

“I would have thought so,” Johnson said when asked if he was resigned to leaving Anfield. “I haven’t got a contract.

“We’ll have to wait and see (if that is going to change). I don’t think so, but we have to wait and see.”

Johnson, 30, has played over 200 games for Liverpool since joining the club from Chelsea in 2009. He was a regular starter for the first five years of his Liverpool career and was part of the group that won the 2012 Football League Cup. However, Johnson has played a reduced role in 2014-15, due to injuries, form and tactical changes that didn’t play to his strengths.

Johnson’s wealth of Premier League and domestic experience could make him an attractive target for potential suitors.
