Nine-year-old Boston Bruins fan and cancer survivor Liam Fitzgerald is an inspiration to so many people.

After raising more than $150,000 dollars for cancer research, Fitzgerald won the “Man of the Year” award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Thursday.

“The candidates for the award usually compete in honor of children who are cancer survivors,” Caryn Switaj of Bruins.com wrote. “Leave it to Liam to take matters into his own hands, with him and his family creating a #BumpOutCancer campaign from March through May to garner donations.

“Every dollar raised counted as one vote, with the candidate getting the most votes being named the Man or Woman of the Year.”

Fitzgerald, who rose to fame when a video of him fist-bumping Bruins players on the bench during warmups went viral in November, also was awarded “Fan of the Year” for 2014 by USA Today in December and received his own hockey card by Upper Deck in March.
