A’s Switch-Pitcher Pat Venditte Goes On DL With Right Shoulder Strain

Baseball fans hoping to catch The Pat Venditte Show will have to wait at least another two weeks to do so.

The Oakland A’s on Friday placed Venditte, the first switch-pitcher to appear in the majors in 20 years, on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder.

Venditte made headlines last Friday when he threw with both arms in a scoreless two-inning appearance against the Boston Red Sox. He’s been far more than a sideshow since making his major league debut at Fenway Park, allowing only one hit over six innings of scoreless relief for Oakland.

The A’s decision to place Venditte on the DL prompted a wide variety of reactions on Twitter. (Just kidding.)

Venditte’s injury is a sizable blow to an A’s pitching staff that entered Friday ranked second-to-last in Major League Baseball in bullpen ERA.
