Brady Quinn: Cam Newton’s Contract Should Be ‘Going Rate’ For Young QBs

Cam Newton has a new contract, one that blows away those signed recently by fellow young quarterbacks. Andy Dalton, Ryan Tannehill and Colin Kaepernick all signed for less guaranteed money (Kaepernick’s “record” deal relies heavily on “rolling guarantees”) despite most of them — Newton included — sporting spotty resumes.

And that’s exactly the way it should be, according to free agent NFL quarterback Brady Quinn.

“Some may question this financial commitment to Newton, especially considering he’s led his teams to a sole playoff win, a 30-31-1 record as a starter overall, and a lethargic attitude at times of adversity,” Quinn writes on FootballbyFootball.com. “Still, there is no NFL quarterback who has as much upside after four seasons as Newton.”

Quinn has more on Newton, plus takes on Sam Bradford, Johnny Manziel and the Cleveland Browns.
