The Philadelphia Phillies haven’t had much to laugh about this season. Enter Cole Hamels, who decided to spice things up Thursday with a bold prank.

The Phillies lefthander — who will miss his next start due to a right hamstring strain — has been the subject of all sorts of trade rumors. So you’d imagine everyone’s surprise when reporters entered Philly’s clubhouse after a 2-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles and found an empty locker where Hamels usually resides.

Get ready, Boston Red Sox fans! An ace is coming your way!

Just kidding.

It turns out Associated Press writer Rob Maaddi’s instincts were right, as Hamels himself decided to clean out his own locker as part of a mischievous prank, according to CSNPhilly.com.

Baseball players always have been known for their shenanigans, and given the circumstances, this was a pretty solid prank from Hamels. It’s something Phillies fans can laugh off as harmless, at least until Hamels actually gets traded in what likely is the near future.
