Andres Guardado has pushed Mexico one step closer to regional supremacy.

Guardado scored with a fine volley Sunday in the first half of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup final between Mexico and Jamaica.

Guardado, Mexico’s star midfielder and the standout player in the tournament, volleyed in Jesus Duenas’ cross in the 30th minute to give “El Tri” a 1-0 lead. Guardado showed great composure and technique in redirecting Duenas’ delivery past goalkeeper Ryan Thompson into the top corner of the goal. It bears mentioning the unmarked Guardado had plenty of time to line up and connect with the ball.

Jesus Corona and Oribe Peralta scored second-half goals, which gave Mexico a 3-0 lead at the time. They went on to win the Gold Cup 3-1 to take home their seventh CONCACAF title.

Mexico will play the United States in a one-game playoff in October to determine CONCACAF’s representative in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
