Byron Maxwell’s Philadelphia Eagles debut didn’t exactly go according to plan.

The former Seattle Seahawks cornerback was part of an Eagles secondary that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones thoroughly abused Monday night at the Georgia Dome.

Jones, a Pro Bowler in two of the last three seasons, caught nine passes for 141 yards and found the end zone twice as the Falcons edged their visitors 26-24 in the first “Monday Night Football” game of the season.

Upon learning of Jones’ monster stat line, Maxwell, who was tasked with covering the freakishly talented wideout for much of the night, couldn’t help but laugh.

“What did he have?” he asked a reporter after the game. “… Oh. Damn.”

One silver lining for Maxwell: The Dallas Cowboys team he’ll face this Sunday will be without its own stud receiver, Dez Bryant, who broke his foot in Dallas’ dramatic Week 1 win over the New York Giants.
