Everything was working against the Royals on Friday night.

Kansas City was only two innings away from clinching a second straight trip to the World Series with a victory in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series, but the Toronto Blue Jays had different plans.

Jose Bautista tied the game up with a two-run home run, his second homer of the day. But Lorenzo Cain made sure there wouldn’t be a Game 7 with some heads-up base running in the bottom of the eighth inning after a 45-minute rain delay.

Cain never stopped running on an Eric Hosmer single, and he somehow managed to score all the way from first as Jays right fielder Jose Bautista threw the ball in toward second base.

That run proved to be the difference in the Royals’ 4-3 win.

The Royals will now face the New York Mets in the World Series.
