DeMarcus Cousins has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately, but that changed this weekend.

The Kings’ star center has offered to pay for the funeral of Jaulon Clavo, a 16-year-old senior at Sacramento’s Grant High School who was shot and killed Friday afternooon.

Cousins reportedly wanted his offer to remain anonymous, but Sacramento city official Rick Jennings confirmed the plans Saturday night during a candlelight vigil for the slain teenager.

Calvo, a starting cornerback on the football team, was driving three teammates back to school ahead of Grant’s playoff game when he was shot in the neck, according to The Sacramento Bee. He died at UC Davis Medical Center. Another teammate, Malik Johnson, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the arm.

Cousins, who has been with the Kings since the team drafted him in 2010, reportedly has attended many Grant High School football games and has made several donations to inner-city schools in Sacramento. He bought new LED scoreboards for Sacramento High School’s gym last June, according to ABC10.com.
