FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots brought rookie wide receivers J.J. Worton and DeAndre Carter to Gillette Stadium for workouts Thursday, according to a source.

Worton went undrafted and unsigned out of Central Florida this offseason after tearing his ACL in November, but he was cleared to play in August, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

He’s best known for making this diving catch in 2013 against Temple.

Worton caught 168 passes in four years at Central Florida for 2,360 yards with 21 touchdowns. He also returned 72 punts for 740 yards.

Carter was cut from the Oakland Raiders’ practice squad Dec. 1. He went undrafted out of Sacramento State and signed with the Baltimore Ravens before being waived Aug. 31.

Carter ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in March with a 38.5-inch vertical leap, 10-foot, 6-inch broad jump, 3.80-second short shuttle and 6.64-second three-cone.

Carter caught 207 passes in four years with the Hornets for 2,760 yards and 37 touchdowns. He had 99 receptions for 1,321 yards with 17 scores as a senior.

The Patriots have wideouts Danny Amendola, Brandon LaFell, Keshawn Martin, Damaris Johnson and Julian Edelman on their 53-man roster. Edelman currently is out with a foot injury. The team also has Chris Harper and Austin Hill on its practice squad.
