It’s far too early to rank Stephen Curry as one of the all-time NBA greats, but surely he’s better than Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, right?
Well, if you ask New York Knicks general manager Phil Jackson, that comparison is fair game.
The morning after Curry electrified the sports world with his incredible performance in the Golden State Warriors’ overtime win over the Golden State Warriors, the legendary former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers coach made that very peculiar comparison.

In case you don’t remember, Abdul-Rauf averaged 14.6 points and 3.5 assists during his nine-year NBA career. Those certainly aren’t bad numbers, but they’re also not on Curry’s level.
Curry already is averaging 22.1 points and 6.9 assists in parts of seven seasons with the Warriors, and he’s also a three-time All-Star, an NBA champion and a former league MVP. And with the way he’s playing this season, it’s safe to say those numbers are on the way up, too.
So, while we would never question the great coach when it comes to X’s and O’s, we’re going to have to call this comparison for what it is — wrong.
