Paul Pierce will return to TD Garden on Wednesday for what could be the last time, and he’ll bring an old friend with him.
Pierce, head coach Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers will be in town to play the Boston Celtics, marking the first time the pair takes the court together in Boston since they left the city.
The 38-year-old Pierce joined the Clippers in July 2015 and might retire after the season, although he has yet to announce his plans. Rivers took over as the Clippers’ head coach and president of basketball operations in June 2013 after nine seasons in Boston. He’s guided L.A. to a 35-17 record this season despite several injuries and off-court incidents.
