After watching Jason Day struggle through Wednesday’s round at the WGC Match Play Championship, many rightly assumed the Australian golfer would take it easy Thursday.

It’s safe to say Day is doing just the opposite.

Despite dealing with what he described Wednesday as a “searing pain” in both sides of his back, Day returned to the course Thursday at Austin Country Club for his match with Thongchai Jaidee.

On the par-first hole, Day didn’t just put his drive on the fairway — he bombed it 381 yards.

Day’s monster drive landed nine feet from the pin, and he tapped in his putt for eagle to win the hole. Not bad for a guy who could barely stand about 24 hours ago.

The 28-year-old has been on an absolute tear since winning the PGA Championship last August, and apparently not even injuries can slow him down. The 2016 Masters are just a few weeks away, so let’s hope Day can stay on the course and continue his fantastic play into the calendar year’s first major.
