A Ronda Rousey-Miesha Tate rematch sounds good, but Tate wonders whether Rousey will ever get back into the octagon.

Tate recently made some eye-raising comments about Rousey during an appearance with SI Now’s Maggie Gray. Specifically, Tate weighed in on Rousey’s claims that she had suicidal thoughts after being knocked out by Holly Holm in a UFC 193 title fight.

“I thought that it was unfortunate to feel that low about something,” Tate told Gray. “I kind of saw it as a chink in the armor, though, honestly. I’m always looking at her from an opponent perspective, and I thought that was a big sign of mental weakness, to be honest.”

In fact, Tate doesn’t even know whether Rousey will return to fighting.

Tate and Rousey do have history. Rousey has defeated Tate twice, most recently at UFC 168 in 2013. A third fight would be highly anticipated after Tate upended Holm with a surprising UFC 196 win.

In an interview with Maxim, Tate further expressed confidence about getting to Rousey should they square off again.

“I’m very confident,” Tate told Maxim. “I was telling everyone that Ronda Rousey is not this unbeatable woman, and everyone was like, ‘You’re crazy,’ then Holly Holm went out there and kicked her head off, and I was like, ‘See? I told you she was only human.’ Then I went out there and choked out Holly. It just goes to show you on any given day that someone can go out there and win fights.

“I want to go out there and I want to rematch her. I feel so excited now that I have the belt. It’s like I’m supercharged, and I feel confident. Definitely. I want to get back in there.”

UFC president Dana White said after UFC 196 that he expects Rousey and Tate to fight later this year.
