Jackie Bradley Jr. has been rewarded for tearing the cover off baseballs.

Major League Baseball announced Monday that Bradley was named the American League Player of the Week after batting .469 with three home runs, 15 RBIs and a 1.298 OPS last week during the Boston Red Sox’s successful 6-1 homestand at Fenway Park.

Boston’s offense has been on fire to begin the season, and no one has been hotter than Bradley, who entered Monday in the midst of a big league-best 21-game hitting streak. Bradley is hitting .331 with six homers, 30 RBIs and a .962 OPS in 37 games.

Bradley has long been known for his defensive prowess, but his offensive emergence has been instrumental in the Red Sox posting a 24-14 record through their first 38 games. The 26-year-old outfielder strung together six consecutive multihit games from May 8 to May 13.
